Our Commitment
Lifspel is built on the belief that your stories are yours. We collect only what we need to run the storytelling tool, and we handle your data with care. Lifspel is operated by Resource Forge LLC ("we", "us"), which is responsible for your data.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address — for signing in and important notifications
- Nom de plume — the pen name shown on scenarios and stories you publish
- Password — stored only as a secure hash, never in plain text
- Your agreement to our Terms — the date and time you agreed, and which version of the Terms of Use you agreed to
- Age confirmations — your confirmation at sign-up that you are 13 years of age or older, and, if you ever ask to switch on Mature content, the date you confirmed you are 18 years of age or older
- Phone number (optional) — only if you turn on SMS notifications
1.2 Story Data
As you use Lifspel, we store:
- Story sessions — your actions and choices, and the story the AI writes in response
- Generated media — the narration audio and illustrations made for your stories
- Scenarios you create — characters, settings, and story elements you design
- Published stories — stories you choose to publish, public or private
- Shared stories — in a co-op story, which players took part
- Preferences — your story engine, prose level, pacing, content maturity, and interface options
1.3 Credits and Payments
- Credit ledger — a record of every credit added to or spent from your balance: your monthly credits, top-ups, and each action that used credits
- Purchases — your plan, Stripe customer and subscription references, and a record of each top-up (amount, date, and Stripe's payment reference)
- Usage costs — what each AI request cost us to run, linked to the account that made it
Your card details go straight to Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
1.4 Usage and Security Information
We automatically collect:
- Sign-in records — the IP address and browser of each signed-in session
- Log data — IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps
- Error and debugging logs — including copies of the prompts sent to the AI and its responses, so we can fix problems with the story engine
- Security signals — for example, whether a sign-up comes from a known Tor exit address, used to spot automated sign-ups
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Run Lifspel and generate your story with AI
- Save your progress and preferences
- Keep your credit balance and charge the right account (in co-op, the host)
- Send account emails (sign-up verification, password resets, receipts and service notices)
- Respond to your questions, feedback, and refund requests
- Understand usage and costs so we can improve and price the service
- Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and security issues
3. Who Processes Your Data
We do not sell your personal information. We use these companies to run Lifspel, and each one receives only what it needs:
- Anthropic (Claude) and OpenAI (GPT) — generate your story. Your actions and the story so far are sent to them each turn. OpenAI also makes illustrations.
- xAI (Grok) — makes narration audio from the passages you choose to hear, and generates your story only if you choose Grok as your Story AI Engine in Settings.
- Stripe — takes payments, manages subscriptions, and sends receipts. Stripe receives your email address, name, and card details.
- Microsoft 365 — sends our email, from noreply@lifspel.com, with replies going to support@lifspel.com. Since 26 October 2026 Lifspel's email goes through Microsoft 365. SendGrid remains as a backup only: if Microsoft 365 fails to send a message, it goes through SendGrid instead. Either way, the provider receives your email address and the message.
- Cloudflare Turnstile — checks that a person, not a bot, is using our sign-in and sign-up forms. Cloudflare receives information about your browser and device for that check.
- Twilio — sends SMS, only if you turn on SMS notifications.
- Font Awesome — serves the icons on our pages, so your browser contacts its servers.
- Our hosting provider — Lifspel runs on servers in the United States.
The AI providers handle the data they receive under their own terms for business customers. We do not use your stories to train AI models. See our AI Use Statement for more.
We may also share information when the law requires it, or to enforce our Terms or protect someone's safety.
4. Who Else Can See Your Content
- Shared (co-op) stories: everything in a shared story—your actions, dialogue, and the story the AI writes—is visible to every participant.
- Published stories and scenarios: if you publish a story or scenario publicly, anyone can read or play it, under your nom de plume.
- Otherwise, your stories are private to you.
5. How Long We Keep Data
We keep your data while your account is open. Database backups are kept for up to about two weeks and then overwritten, so deleted data can remain in a backup for that long.
6. Deleting Your Account and Data
You can delete your account yourself in Settings → Delete Account. Deleting your account also ends any subscription straight away, with no further charges.
When you delete your account, we immediately delete:
- Your account (email address, password, nom de plume, phone number, preferences, and Terms and age confirmations)
- Your sign-in sessions
- Your scenarios and your published stories
- Your place in any shared stories, and any feedback you sent
Some records are kept after deletion, with your account removed from them:
- Money history. Your credit ledger and purchase records are kept, but no longer linked to you, because we need accurate payment and cost records for our accounts. Stripe keeps its own payment records under its own policy.
- Story sessions and media. Your story sessions are unlinked from your account but not erased by the Delete Account button, and nor are the story files, narration audio, and illustrations stored with them.
- Logs. Cost, security, and debugging logs (which can include story text) are kept for operating and security purposes.
To have everything erased, including your stories, media, and logs, email support@lifspel.com from your account's email address before or after you delete your account. We will erase it within 30 days, except the anonymous money history above.
7. Your Rights
You can:
- See your account details, credit balance, and stories in Lifspel
- Correct your email, nom de plume, and preferences in Settings
- Delete your account, and ask us to erase your data as described above
- Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you by emailing support@lifspel.com
- Opt out of non-essential communications
Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local law. Email us and we will help.
8. Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit (HTTPS), hashed passwords, a bot check on sign-in forms, and regular security reviews. See our Security page for more details.
9. Cookies
We use a small number of essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. See our Cookie Policy for the details.
10. Children's Privacy
Lifspel is for people 13 years of age and older, and sign-up requires you to confirm you are 13 or older. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please email support@lifspel.com or contact us, and we will assess and address the concern.
11. International Users
Lifspel is operated from the United States. If you are accessing from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US, which may have different data protection laws than your country.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice on our site or sending you an email.
13. Contact
