Welcome to Lifspel
Lifspel is a Storyplay Engine—an AI-powered interactive storytelling tool where you inhabit a protagonist and shape a story through your choices. Lifspel is operated by Resource Forge LLC ("Resource Forge", "we", "us"). These Terms of Use ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Resource Forge, and they govern your use of Lifspel.
By creating an account or using Lifspel, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
1. Using Lifspel
1.1 Minimum Age
You must be 13 years of age or older to use Lifspel. When you sign up, you confirm that you are 13 years or older and that you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy. If you are under 18, your parent or guardian must review and agree to these Terms, and they are responsible for any purchase you make.
1.2 Content Maturity
Lifspel stories are written Family-friendly (about PG-13). Mature stories are only for adults 18 years of age and over. Mature content is not offered yet. When it is, you will have to confirm separately that you are 18 or older before you can enable Mature content, and stories stay Family-friendly until you do.
1.3 Your Account
You are responsible for all activity under your Lifspel account, including credits spent and purchases made. You agree to keep your Lifspel password safe and do not share it with others.
1.4 Acceptable Use
You agree to use Lifspel only for lawful purposes. You will not:
- Attempt to access other users' accounts or data
- Use the service to generate content that is illegal, harmful, or violates others' rights
- Attempt to get around content settings, credit charges, technical limits, or security measures
- Use automated systems to access the service without permission
- Interfere with the proper functioning of the service
The AI providers we use have their own usage rules, and we may block requests that violate them.
2. What You Are Buying: the Tool, Never a Book
Lifspel sells use of a storytelling tool. It does not sell books, stories, or any finished work, and it does not sell access to them. What you pay for is the tool doing work for you: writing each turn of your story, narrating a moment aloud, drawing an illustration, or running an AI helper (such as a suggested action, a scene seed, or a world question).
The story that comes out of your play is your own fan work, made for your own use. It is not a product we sell to you.
3. Credits
3.1 What Credits Are
Credits are how Lifspel meters use of the tool. Each action that calls the AI costs a set number of credits, and the cost is shown on our Pricing page and in your Settings. For example, a story turn at the Standard prose level costs 16 credits with the GPT engine, and a turn that needs a story check (a careful read for continuity) costs 10 credits more. We charge for an action only after it is delivered. A turn that fails to save is not charged.
We may change the credit cost of an action. A change applies to actions taken after it, never to credits already spent.
3.2 Monthly Credits
- Free subscription: 175 credits a month, at no cost.
- Standard subscription: 800 credits a month.
- Chronicler subscription: 2,000 credits a month.
- Saga subscription: 4,000 credits a month.
Monthly credits follow your own date, not the calendar. On Free, they are added each month on the day you signed up. On a paid plan (Standard, Chronicler, or Saga), they are added when each monthly payment goes through, on your billing date; your first month's credits arrive when you first subscribe. Unused monthly credits carry over to the next month, up to one month's worth (175 on Free, 800 on Standard, 2,000 on Chronicler, 4,000 on Saga), and the new month's credits are added on top. Monthly credits above that limit expire when the new month's credits arrive. When a paid plan ends, your Free months start that day.
3.3 Top-Up Credits
Subscribers to a paid plan can buy a top-up: 500 credits, paid once, at the same price per credit as your plan ($7.50 on Standard, $6.25 on Chronicler, $5.63 on Saga). Top-up credits do not expire, and they stay in your balance if you later cancel your plan. Monthly credits are spent first, then top-up credits.
3.4 Credits Have No Cash Value
Credits are not money. They cannot be sold, transferred to another account, or exchanged for cash, except for a refund under our Refund and Cancellation Policy.
4. Subscriptions, Renewal, and Cancellation
4.1 Paid Plans
Standard costs $12 a month, Chronicler $25 a month, and Saga $45 a month (US dollars). Payments are handled by Stripe, and Stripe sends your receipt. We never see or store your full payment card number.
4.2 Automatic Renewal
A paid plan renews automatically every month, on the date you first subscribed, and your card is charged your plan's price each time until you cancel. If a renewal payment fails, Stripe retries the card for a time and you keep your plan while it does. If the payment still fails, your account moves to Free. If we ever change the price of a paid plan, we will tell you by email before the new price applies to you, and you can cancel before it does.
4.3 Cancelling
You can cancel any time from Settings → Usage & Subscription → Manage Subscription, which opens Stripe's secure billing page. You keep your plan until the end of the month you have paid for, and your next payment is not taken. After that your account moves to Free. Credits already in your balance stay there, and from the next month you receive the Free allowance and Free's carry-over limit applies.
Deleting your Lifspel account ends your subscription straight away, with no further charges.
5. Refunds
In short: you can cancel any time and keep access to the end of the period you paid for. Credits you have used are not refunded. If you ask within 7 days of your first payment on a paid plan and have not spent any credits since subscribing, we will refund it. The full rules, including top-ups and how to ask, are in our Refund and Cancellation Policy.
6. Content and Ownership
6.1 Your Content
You keep ownership of your own original contributions: the actions and dialogue you type, and the scenarios, characters, and settings you write. You give Resource Forge a license to store, process, and display that content as needed to run Lifspel, including sending it to our AI providers to generate your story.
6.2 AI-Generated Content
The prose, narration, illustrations, and suggestions in Lifspel are generated by AI from your inputs. Please keep in mind:
- It is AI output. It can be wrong, inconsistent, or unexpected. Nothing in a story is fact, advice, or our opinion, and we make no promise that it is accurate, original, or fit for any purpose.
- It may not be unique. Similar inputs can produce similar output for other players, so no one can claim exclusive rights in AI-generated text. See our Copyright page and AI Use Statement.
- You may use it for yourself. You may keep, reread, and share your stories with friends, publish them on Lifspel for others to read, and use them as inspiration for your own writing.
6.3 A Story or Book May Not Be Sold
A story or book made with Lifspel is free fan work. It may not be sold—by Resource Forge or by you. That means you may not sell it, charge for access to it, or offer it as a paid product, in whole or in substantial part, in any format (print, e-book, audiobook, or subscription). Resource Forge will not sell it either. This rule is permanent; it is not a placeholder while we wait on anything.
6.4 System Scenarios
Scenarios provided by Lifspel ("System Scenarios") remain the intellectual property of Resource Forge. You may play them but may not copy, distribute, or create derivative works from them outside Lifspel.
7. Playing Together (Co-op)
A story can be shared so that other players join it. In a shared story:
- The host pays. Every turn, narration, illustration, and AI helper in the shared story is paid from the host's credits, whoever asked for it. When the host is out of credits, those actions pause for everyone.
- Everyone sees everything. Everything written in a shared story—your actions, your dialogue, and the story the AI writes—is visible to every participant. Do not put anything in a shared story you would not want the other players to read.
- Invite links are open. Any signed-in player with the story's invite link can join until every character slot is taken, without further approval from the host. Share the link with care.
8. Privacy and Data
Your privacy matters to us. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, which companies process it for us, how long we keep it, and how to have it deleted.
9. SMS Notifications
9.1 Opting In
You may opt in to receive SMS notifications by adding your phone number in your account settings. SMS alerts are sent for urgent priority items on the team discussion board. By providing your phone number, you consent to receive these messages.
9.2 Message Frequency
Message frequency varies based on team activity. Typically fewer than 10 messages per month. Message and data rates may apply.
9.3 Opting Out
You can stop receiving SMS at any time by replying STOP to any message, or by removing your phone number from your account settings. Reply HELP for assistance. For support, contact support@lifspel.com.
10. Service Availability
Lifspel is in beta. We work to keep it available and working well, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. We may change, suspend, or end features at any time, and we will try to give notice of significant changes when practical. If we shut Lifspel down entirely, we will tell subscribers by email and refund any subscription payment for a month we cannot provide.
11. Limitations of Liability
Lifspel is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Resource Forge is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows the current version, and we record which version you agreed to when you signed up. We will tell you about material changes by posting a notice on the site or by email. If you keep using Lifspel after a change takes effect, you accept the new Terms.
13. Termination
You may stop using Lifspel at any time, and you can delete your account in Settings, which also ends any subscription. We may suspend or close your account if you break these Terms. Provisions that should survive the end of this agreement (such as the rule that a book may not be sold, and the limits of liability) continue.
14. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
